Memorial Scholarship Program

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Chapter of UNICO is dedicated to helping area students maximize their talent and potential through educational pursuits. For over 50 years, since our chapter was formed, we have distributed over a quarter of a million dollars in scholarship awards. 

This year, the chapter is offering to high school seniors who are of verifiable Italian heritage a total of SIX (6) scholarships as follows:

                           * FOUR - $2,500 scholarships to students who will be attending a 4-year college/university

                              * ONE - $1,500 scholarship to a student who will be attending a 2-year college

                              * ONE  - $1000 scholarship to a student who will be attending a post-secondary vocational,

                                technical or trade school/program

• Applicants must reside in Scotch Plains or Fanwood to be considered for an award and must be of verifiable Italian heritage. 

• Applicants may attend a high school outside of Scotch Plains or Fanwood.

• Scholarship winners are selected by the general membership of Scotch Plains-Fanwood UNICO. Awards are based on a combination of financial need, academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and civic/community participation. Scholarships will be applied to the first year of study at an accredited college/university or any vocational/technical/trade school. (The chapter may consider applying the scholarship to the second year of study, if necessary.)  Scholarships are not renewable.

• Scholarship awards will NOT be paid directly to the student. Payment will be sent directly to the educational institution and will not exceed the remaining balance after all other scholarships or grants are applied. Scholarship winners MUST provide our scholarship chairperson with a detailed Bursar’s invoice/School Tuition Invoice and documentation of expenses in order for funds to be disbursed. (Without the proper invoice/documentation of expenses, scholarship may be voided.)

• All communication will be via email. Do not use your school email address!  Please provide a personal email address that you check regularly!

• Applicants must use the OFFICIAL SP-F UNICO scholarship application form, available only on the scholarship page of our website at www.unicospf.org. The application must be completed and submitted by March 1, 2026 at 11:59pm.

• Please be sure to follow all requirements and deadlines of your School Counseling Office for requesting transcripts to be sent to our chapter. SPFHS students, we will request the transcript directly from your School Counseling Office on your behalf. For all other high schools, please have your school counseling department send a copy of your MID-YEAR transcript to our Scholarship Committee via email to spfunicoscholarship@gmail.com by March 7, 2026.

• Letters of recommendation are NOT accepted. Please do not send them.

• WINNERS ONLY will be notified via email before April 15, 2026. We will not present awards at your school, instead Scholarship winners will be invited to accept their award at our chapter's Scholarship Awards Dinner in May
